Section 8
The
Public Housing Authority of Butte has 21 Section 8 Housing Choice
Vouchers.
In the Section 8 Program, participants must not exceed the income guidelines
set by HUD and they must have criminal background checks. The Section 8
participants rent units in the private market. They can rent houses,
apartments, or mobile homes. The units are inspected before a participant
can move into the unit and the units are inspected annually thereafter.
Participants pay 30% of their monthly adjusted income for rent and
utilities. The Public Housing Authority of Butte pays the remainder of
the rent directly to the landlords each month.
Shelter + Care
The Public Housing Authority of Butte has
received funding for 12 participants for the Shelter + Care program.
Shelter + Care is very similar to the Section 8 program. However,
participants in the Shelter + Care program must be homeless and have case
management services at the time they are admitted to the Shelter + Care
program.
Since case management is a required component of this program, most of the
Shelter + Care participants are clients of Western Montana Mental Health.
After being admitted to the Shelter + Care program, the participants find their
own housing in the private market and follow the same rules as in the Section 8
program. Homeownership
The
Public Housing Authority of Butte has received approval from HUD to sell its 12
scattered site, single family homes.
The houses will be sold to the families who are currently residing in the
houses. If a family does not want to purchase his or her home he or she
will be allowed to remain in the home as a renter. The housing authority
has received set aside funding from the Montana Board of Housing which will
provide a discounted interest rate to the homebuyers.
